Cyclone Montha Rapidly Intensifies Over Bay of Bengal

Cyclone Montha is rapidly strengthening over the Bay of Bengal and is expected to escalate into a severe storm as it approaches the eastern coast of India. Meteorological departments have issued alerts for states likely to be affected, including Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, and West Bengal, warning residents to prepare for heavy rainfall, strong winds, and possible flooding.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Cyclone Montha is moving northwest at a steady pace and could make landfall between late October 26 and early October 27, 2025. Coastal authorities are on high alert, with emergency response teams ready to assist in evacuation and disaster mitigation. Fishermen have been advised to avoid venturing into the sea until the storm passes.

Experts predict that Montha’s intensification is driven by warm sea surface temperatures and favorable atmospheric conditions. The storm’s wind speeds are expected to reach over 120 km/h, capable of uprooting trees, damaging structures, and disrupting electricity and communication networks. Residents are urged to secure loose objects, follow local advisories, and maintain emergency kits with essential supplies.
