PM Modi Extends Heartfelt Chhath Puja 2025

Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended warm greetings to devotees after the conclusion of Chhath Puja 2025, calling the festival a “divine glimpse of our grand tradition” in a post on X. Modi prayed for the well-being and prosperity of families who observed the four-day ritual and congratulated fasting devotees who offered morning and evening arghyas across river ghats.

This year’s Chhath Mahaparv ran from October 25 to October 28, beginning with Nahay-Khay, followed by Kharna, then Sandhya Arghya, and ending with the concluding Usha Arghya at dawn on the final day. Thousands gathered at riverbanks, ghats and ponds to present offerings to the Sun God and to Chhathi Maiya, bringing heavy footfall at major sites including Delhi’s Yamuna Ghat and famed ghats in Bihar. Local authorities deployed security personnel to ensure smooth conduct and manage crowds.

Chhath remains one of India’s most widely observed regional festivals, with intensive community participation and collective rituals that emphasise gratitude, purity and environmental respect at waterbodies. Devotees typically prepare seasonal offerings of fruits, coconut and traditional sweets, and perform strict fasts that include standing in water to offer arghya at sunrise and sunset — practices that draw family groups and volunteers to maintain order on busy ghats. The festival’s resurgence in urban centres highlights sustained cultural ties among migrants and younger generations.
