CBI Takes Over UKSSSC Paper Leak Case After Exam Cancellation
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered a case and begun probing the alleged paper leak in the Uttarakhand Subordinate Services Selection Commission (UKSSSC) graduate-level exam held on September 21, officials said. The probe follows the state government’s decision to hand over the investigation after mass protests and the cancellation of the exam on October 11.
According to the Special Investigation Team (SIT) formed by the state, three pages of a question paper were photographed at a Haridwar exam centre and circulated on social media. The SIT’s inquiry identified a candidate, Khalid Malik, who allegedly photographed the pages and shared them with his sister, Sabia. The pages were then passed to an assistant professor, Suman, who reportedly screenshot the paper and shared it further; that post later went viral. Arrests have been made and several individuals suspended in connection with the leak.
The alleged leak touched off widespread anger among job seekers. The Uttarakhand Unemployed Association staged large protests demanding accountability; Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami accepted the protesters’ demand and formally recommended a CBI probe to ensure an impartial, central investigation. Uttarakhand’s Additional Director General of Police (Law & Order) V. Murugesan confirmed that the police investigation file and related documents are being handed to the CBI.
