1X Technologies unveils NEO, a $20,000 humanoid home assistant that cooks, carries groceries and talks; early deliveries in US from 2026 and wider rollout in 2027.

NEO Humanoid Robot
American–Norwegian robotics firm 1X Technologies has unveiled NEO, a consumer-focused humanoid designed to perform everyday household tasks — from cooking and carrying groceries to casual conversation and personalised assistance. NEO weighs roughly 30 kg, can lift loads over 68 kg and carry up to 25 kg, and features a soft, customisable exterior with a knit suit and shoes so it blends into a home environment.
Built with 22 degrees-of-freedom hands and a patented Tendon Drive actuator system, It moves smoothly and operates quietly (around 22 decibels), reducing abrupt motions and making it suitable for indoor use. Its visual system can recognise objects and suggest recipes, while onboard memory allows the robot to personalise tasks and remember past interactions. Connectivity includes Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and 5G, and the unit uses an integrated large language model to understand speech and respond conversationally.
The price for early access is $20,000 (about ₹17.6 lakh), with a $499 monthly subscription option; 1X plans initial deliveries to US early buyers in 2026, followed by a broader rollout in 2027. While NEO marks a step toward household robotics, experts note challenges remain — cost, safety certifications, regulatory clearance and reliability under everyday conditions — before such humanoids become commonplace.
