Chandigarh Municipal Corporation commissioner Amit Kumar issues strict directions to remove encroachments from civic land, sets deadline of Nov 15 for compliance and monthly certification to protect public property and improve civic planning.

Encroachment-Free Chandigarh
Chandigarh Municipal Corporation commissioner Amit Kumar has issued strict directions for the removal of encroachments on civic land, reiterating a zero-tolerance policy and setting firm deadlines for officers to comply. All officers up to the chief engineer have been instructed to clear temporary encroachments within seven days and to immediately report permanent encroachments for higher-level action.
Under the new order, every officer must submit a certificate confirming the status of encroachment removal by November 15, 2025, and thereafter file such certification on the 15th of every month, strengthening accountability and monitoring. Area officials (JE/SDE/XEN Roads) were specifically tasked to inspect Sector 25 and Janta Colony, map corporation-owned parcels, and propose fencing and land-use plans to prevent future occupation.
Officials warned that those who fail to comply will be held responsible, signalling tougher administrative action and closer oversight of municipal land records and field operations. The move aims to safeguard public land, improve urban planning, and free civic assets for planned development such as parks, community spaces and infrastructure.
