Telangana Shocked as Deadly Truck-Bus Collision

A head-on collision between a gravel-laden lorry and a Telangana RTC bus on the Hyderabad–Bijapur highway left at least 24 people dead and scores injured near Mirzaguda village in Chevella mandal, Ranga Reddy district, on Monday morning. The bus, operating from the Tandur depot and carrying roughly 70 passengers bound for Hyderabad, was struck when the truck veered into the opposite lane and toppled onto the bus, burying several passengers under its load. Eyewitnesses described a chaotic scene as locals and first responders pulled survivors from the wreckage.

Emergency teams used JCB excavators to remove heavy debris and free those trapped beneath the gravel. Many of the injured were shifted to Chevella Government Hospital, while critically hurt passengers were referred to hospitals in Hyderabad. Officials warned the death toll could rise as several people remained in critical condition. The collision caused a major traffic standstill on the Chevella–Vikarabad route as rescue and relief work proceeded.

Local authorities and Telangana chief minister A. Revanth Reddy immediately ordered a war-footing response, directing the chief secretary and DGP to oversee rescue operations and ensure ambulances, medical teams and paramedics were deployed. The chief minister spoke to senior officials and asked district authorities to intensify relief efforts and shift the badly injured to Hyderabad for advanced care. Police investigations are on to determine the exact cause; preliminary leads point to overspeeding and loss of control by the lorry driver.
