A catastrophic explosion at the Srinagar Nowgam police station destroyed crucial evidence and killed 9 forensic experts. Learn how this tragedy has severely impacted the investigation into the vast Faridabad terror module and its 2900 kg chemical cache.

Srinagar Nowgam police station blast
The counter-terrorism efforts in Jammu and Kashmir have suffered a tragic and critical blow following a massive, accidental explosion at the Nowgam Police Station in Srinagar. The late-night incident on Friday, November 14, 2025, not only claimed the lives of nine individuals but effectively decimated the specialized team and destroyed the evidence central to one of the most significant terror investigations in recent history. While authorities, including J&K DGP Nalin Prabhat and the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), have categorically ruled out an external terror angle, the blast’s aftermath ensures a critical setback that will inevitably delay the prosecution and further unraveling of the complex inter-state terror module.
The blast occurred as a joint team of officials was diligently processing samples from a monumental cache of explosive substances recovered from Faridabad, Haryana. This material, estimated to weigh nearly 2900 kilograms of highly volatile chemicals like ammonium nitrate, was the seized case property linking several educated professionals, including doctors, to a sophisticated network. The voluminous recovery, which police believe had connections to the November 10 Delhi Red Fort blast, was being handled with “utmost caution” in an open area of the police station, yet the unstable nature of the material proved fatal.
