AIMIM Strategic Political Moves

AIMIM backs Congress in Jubilee Hills bypoll — Owaisi’s move

AIMIM chief Owaisi backs Congress candidate Naveen Yadav in Jubilee Hills bypoll; party goes solo in Bihar with 25 Seemanchal candidates, sparking political debate.

AIMIMs Calculated Political Maneuvers

AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi has announced his party will support Congress candidate Naveen Yadav in the Jubilee Hills Assembly bypoll scheduled for November 11, saying the result “will not make or break” the incumbent government and urging about four lakh former BRS voters to back Yadav. The bypoll is a three-way contest between Congress, BRS and the BJP, and AIMIM’s intervention aims to consolidate a specific voter bloc in the high-profile Hyderabad seat.

At the same time, AIMIM has opted to contest Bihar assembly elections independently, naming 25 candidates — mainly from the Seemanchal region — rather than joining the INDIA bloc or a local Mahagathbandhan, a move that has drawn criticism from rivals and raised questions about vote-splitting in the state’s Muslim-majority districts. The party, which won five Seemanchal seats in 2020, says it reached out to RJD leaders but did not receive a response.

The dual strategy — backing Congress in Telangana while going solo in Bihar — has provoked sharp remarks from opponents and underscores AIMIM’s growing tactical independence. Critics such as Congress leader Udit Raj accused the party of indirectly helping the BJP, while AIMIM framed its Bihar slate as focused on local representation and contesting winnable seats in Muslim-majority pockets.
