‘Nowhere safe’: 36 Israeli strikes in Gaza killed only women and children, says UN

The United Nations (UN) condemned the human cost of the Middle East war on Friday, stating that an examination of 36 Israeli attacks in Gaza, Palestine, revealed that solely women and children were killed. "There were approximately 224 instances of Israeli strikes on residential buildings and tents for internally displaced people between 18 March and 9 April 2025," spokeswoman Ravina Shamdasani told reporters in Geneva.

Shamdasani issued a warning, saying that the military attacks in Gaza were "leaving nowhere safe." "In some 36 strikes about which the UN Human Rights Office corroborated information, the fatalities recorded so far were only women and children," she stated. Additionally, the UN rights agency cautioned that growing Israeli evacuation orders were forcing Palestinians into ever-tinier areas within the war-torn Palestinian territory.

"Overall, a large percentage of fatalities are children and women, according to information recorded by our Office," Shamdasani stated. Shamdasani mentioned an attack on the Abu Issa family's Deir al Balah home on April 6 that is said to have murdered a four-year-old boy, four women, and a girl.
