Who is Nainar Nagendran, set to become Tamil Nadu BJP president?

Nainar Nagendran has been chosen to lead the Tamil Nadu branch of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Following firebrand former IPS officer K Annamalai, Nainar Nagendran, a defector from the AIADMK, is expected to become the 13th president of the Tamil Nadu BJP. Since he was the only one to submit a nomination for the position, he was reportedly the sole candidate in the contest.

Next year, Tamil Nadu will hold assembly elections, and the BJP is attempting to make inroads in a state where Dravidian politics predominate. Leading the party into the elections that could determine the state's political future would be a difficult task for Nainar Nagendran.

Nagendran, who was born in Vadiveeswaram on October 16, 1960, began his career with the AIADMK, which was led by J Jayalalithaa, as a member of the legislative assembly representing the Tirunelveli seat. After Jayalalithaa served as chief minister from 2001 to 2006, he was promoted to cabinet minister and held the positions of transport, industry, and electricity.
