Georgia becomes first US state to introduce bill against ‘Hinduphobia’
According to reports, Georgia is the first state in the US to propose a bill that would amend the penal code to include anti-Hindu discrimination. This would allow law enforcement to take action against any instances of bigotry. Georgia passed a county resolution on discrimination against Hindus in 2023, making it the first state in the US to do so.
In a post on X, the Coalition of Hindus in North America (CoHNA) declared that Democratic Senators Jason Esteves and Emanuel D. Jones, as well as Republican Senators Shawn Still and Clint Dixon, have endorsed the SB 375 legislation to combat "Hinduphobia."
"The State of Georgia has introduced SB 375, which formally updates the state's penal code to recognize Hinduphobia and anti-Hindu prejudice. This allows law enforcement and other agencies to take into account Hinduphobia while cataloguing such discrimination and taking appropriate action," they stated in their post.
