Donald Trump meets Zelensky at Pope Francis' funeral, weeks after White House spat
The White House confirmed that US President Donald Trump met with his Ukrainian counterpart, Volodymyr Zelensky, at the Vatican on Saturday, before Pope Francis' burial began. The meeting comes weeks after the two leaders clashed in front of the media in Washington, DC, where Zelensky had been to discuss and sign minerals deal with the Trump administration. This is the first time the two have met since their argument.
According to the Associated Press, White House communications director Steven Cheung stated that they "met privately today and had a very productive discussion" and that further information would be released shortly.
Trump arrived to the Vatican with his wife, First Lady Melania Trump, for the funeral of Pope Francis, who died at the age of 88 on Monday. The Republican was sat in the front row, near French President Emmanuel Macron, for the outdoor liturgy.
