YouTube names Gunjan Soni as managing director for India

Gunjan Soni has been appointed as YouTube's Country Managing Director for India, the company announced on Monday. Soni has worked successfully with ZALORA, Star India, and Myntra. She takes on her new post following the departure of Ishan Chatterjee last year. Soni, who has over two decades of leadership experience in business, technology, marketing, and e-commerce, will manage YouTube's growth and innovation activities in India, the Alphabet-owned video network announced in a press release.

Soni joins YouTube from ZALORA, where she was Group CEO for six years, based in Singapore. During her employment, she helped to introduce new categories and business models, stimulate innovation, and improve user experience through personalization and a successful loyalty program.

Soni also has extensive Indian media and marketing experience, having served as EVP of Star India and CMO of Myntra. Before that, she was a Partner in McKinsey's Consumer and Marketing Practice. She is on the board of CBRE Group, a Fortune 500 corporation. "I am both humbled and thrilled to join this dynamic team and lead a platform that has long supported the powerhouse of talent that is the Indian creator economy," she told me.
