Supreme Court allows Trump administration to cut teacher-training money, for now
While a challenge is still pending, the Supreme Court on Friday granted the Trump administration's request to reduce hundreds of millions of dollars in funding for teacher training as part of its anti-DEI initiatives. Chief Justice John Roberts joined the three liberal justices in dissent, and the justices divided 5–4.
The Justice Department claims that lower-court judges have unjustly impeded President Donald Trump's agenda in a number of appeals, including the emergency appeal, that the high court is currently reviewing. In a similar case involving roughly $2 billion in cuts to foreign aid, the Supreme Court ruled 5-4 against the administration, with Justice Amy Coney Barrett serving as the majority in both cases.
Whether Friday's ruling represents a close victory or a more significant change in Trump's favor is still up in the air. With Friday's ruling, the country's highest court granted the administration its request on an emergency basis for the first time in three tries.
