Russia Signals New Talks After Firing Missile Barrage at Ukraine

Hours after Moscow's military launched a ballistic missile into Kyiv, killing at least one person, the Kremlin negotiator stated in a state TV interview that new negotiations between Russia and the US about a ceasefire in Ukraine are anticipated as soon as this week. According to Kirill Dmitriev's remarks on Russia's Channel 1, it was not obvious who would be participating in the negotiations, at what level, or if face-to-face discussions would be held.

Considered a close confidant of Russian President Vladimir Putin, Dmitriev spent two days in Washington last week meeting with President Donald Trump's special envoy Steve Witkoff and Secretary of State Marco Rubio. Since Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, he was the highest ranking Russian official to visit the US capital.

Early on Sunday, Russian soldiers bombarded Ukraine's capital with a ballistic missile and launched a volley of drones and missiles against many other targets. According to Ukraine's military forces, the attack used 23 different types of missiles and more than 100 drones.
