India face third consecutive defeat, lose to Argentina in FIH Pro League
The Indian men's hockey team endured their third consecutive defeat in the European leg of the FIH Pro League, losing 3-4 to Argentina in a closely contested match held in Amstelveen, Netherlands on Wednesday.
After back-to-back losses to the Netherlands, India entered the match hoping to regain form but struggled defensively throughout the game.
Early Lead for Argentina
Argentina took an early lead through Matias Rey, who capitalized on a poor clearance from Amit Rohidas. His powerful shot hit the inside of the post and defIndiaVsArgentinalected off goalkeeper Krishan Pathak’s hand into the goal.
India Fight Back
India responded within ten minutes, earning a penalty corner. Captain Harmanpreet Singh stepped up with a powerful drag-flick that found the net after a slight deflection, leveling the score at 1-1.
Tight Contest Continues
Argentina regained the lead in the 17th minute when Lucas Martinez received a well-controlled pass and scored with a composed finish. After the break, India equalized 2-2 via a penalty stroke, which Harmanpreet converted confidently.
However, just a minute later, Argentina struck again through Santiago Tarazona, making it 3-2 after a swift move from the right flank. India found another lifeline when Abhishek netted the rebound from Jarmanpreet Singh’s initial shot, making it 3-3.
Argentina Seal the Win
But the deadlock didn’t last long. Lucio Mendez scored from close range following another well-executed attack by Argentina. Despite India's late pressure, the South Americans held firm to clinch the win.
India will face Argentina again on Thursday, with head coach Craig Fulton hoping to see his team end the losing streak and bounce back with a better defensive performance.
