Minecraft Bedrock to Get Vibrant Visuals Update Later This Week

Mojang Studios is rolling out the long-awaited Vibrant Visuals update for Minecraft Bedrock Edition on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, bringing significant graphical upgrades while preserving the classic Minecraft aesthetic.Announced via a YouTube video on June 14, the update enhances lighting, shadows, biome-specific fog, and introduces a dynamic new atmosphere system. “Everything we added needed to feel really natural,” explained A.J. Fairfield, lead rendering engineer.

A major highlight is the new Physically Based Rendering (PBR) system. This allows textures to display properties like metalness, roughness, and emissiveness, delivering more depth and realism. “Before, everything really only used color,” said art director Jasper Boerstra. “Now, textures can look and feel very different.”

Each biome now has unique lighting and color tones. For instance, warm regions appear more golden-orange, while cool zones lean blue. The Pale Garden biome features glowing plants and dense fog, creating a distinct visual mood. Water has also received special attention, now featuring caustics and light reflections, thanks to careful modeling by Mojang’s graphics team.

The update will be enabled by default on supported Bedrock devices and can be toggled via the video settings—no mods or tweaks required. Mojang promises ease of use and compatibility.

While the Java Edition won’t receive this update immediately, work is already underway. Recent test builds show features like atmospheric fog and infinite cloud rendering being integrated. “We’re making sure we have a strong foundation for the community to build upon,” said Dejan Dimic, head of the Vibrant Visuals team.

This release coincides with Minecraft’s broader media presence, including Steve’s appearance in Sonic Racing Crossworlds and the production of a live-action movie, marking a bold new chapter for the beloved sandbox game.
