Delhi Minister Ashish Sood opens Ayushman Arogya Mandir in Janakpuri
In a significant step toward enhancing public healthcare infrastructure in the national capital, Delhi Minister Ashish Sood inaugurated the Ayushman Arogya Mandir in Janakpuri on Sunday. The initiative is part of the central government’s nationwide plan to strengthen primary healthcare by converting existing wellness centers into fully equipped health and wellness hubs under the Ayushman Bharat scheme.
The newly launched Ayushman Arogya Mandir is set to benefit thousands of residents in and around Janakpuri, offering essential health services free of cost or at nominal rates. At the inauguration ceremony, Minister Ashish Sood emphasized the government’s commitment to expanding access to quality healthcare, particularly in densely populated urban areas and underserved communities.
“This is not just a building or a clinic; it is a promise — a promise to bring healthcare closer to people’s homes, to serve the elderly, women, children, and all those who cannot afford expensive treatment,” said Sood during his address. He highlighted how the Mandir is aligned with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of “Swasth Bharat, Samriddh Bharat” (Healthy India, Prosperous India).
The Ayushman Arogya Mandir will provide preventive, promotive, diagnostic, and basic curative services, including routine health check-ups, immunization, screening for non-communicable diseases (like diabetes, hypertension, and cancer), family planning services, and mental health counseling. The center is also equipped with telemedicine facilities to ensure specialist consultations are accessible even in local areas.
Healthcare staff at the center includes community health officers, ANMs (Auxiliary Nurse Midwives), and lab technicians, all trained to deliver integrated primary healthcare. The Mandir aims to serve as the first point of contact for patients, reducing the burden on secondary and tertiary hospitals in Delhi.
Local residents welcomed the opening with enthusiasm, calling it a “much-needed facility.” Several elderly citizens and women were seen attending the inaugural camp organized at the site, where free check-ups and basic medicines were distributed.
Speaking to the media, Minister Sood reiterated the government’s aim to establish more than 1,500 Ayushman Arogya Mandirs across Delhi in a phased manner. “Our mission is to ensure that no family has to travel long distances for primary care. We are working to make healthcare truly universal and inclusive,” he said.
