Vingroup in Talks with Andhra, Telangana to Expand in India
Vietnamese conglomerate Vingroup is fast-tracking its entry into the Indian market through its electric vehicle arm, VinFast, which is currently in talks with multiple state governments and gearing up for the launch of its VF7 and VF6 models ahead of the festive season. This launch will mark Vingroup’s official foray into India.
The company has already committed $2 billion to build an EV manufacturing facility in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu, chosen for its strategic location with access to both a port and an airport. “We evaluated several states before selecting Thoothukudi for its logistical strengths,” said VinFast Asia CEO Pham Sanh Chau in a statement to PTI.
Beyond Tamil Nadu, VinFast is also in active discussions with the Telangana and Andhra Pradesh governments to explore additional facilities. “India is a key market for us, and we are planning for a larger footprint,” Chau added.
The company highlighted the growing popularity of electric vehicles in India’s Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities. VinFast aims to build a strong brand presence and expand its dealership network strategically, based on the growth potential of each city.
