Nitish Kumar hikes pensions to ₹1,100 ahead of Bihar elections

In a significant move ahead of the Bihar Assembly Elections 2025, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has announced a major hike in social security pensions for the elderly, widows, and disabled. Starting July, the monthly pension will rise from ₹400 to ₹1,100, benefiting over 1.09 crore beneficiaries.

Sharing the update on social media platform X, the CM stated that beneficiaries will receive the increased amount from July 10 every month, ensuring timely support to the vulnerable sections. This development comes just months before the expected October-November elections in the state.

The announcement follows a wave of political activity in Bihar, with PM Narendra Modi recently launching development projects worth ₹5,200 crore, and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi initiating the 'Nyay Samvad' campaign.

The 2025 elections are poised to witness a showdown between Nitish Kumar’s JD(U)-BJP-led NDA and the Mahagathbandhan, which includes RJD, Congress, and Left parties, with Tejashwi Yadav leading the opposition alliance.
