New Maruti Suzuki Escudo SUV Likely to Launch Soon: Key Features Revealed

Maruti Suzuki, traditionally known as India’s “small car king,” is strengthening its position in the SUV segment with the expected launch of a new compact SUV — likely to be named the Maruti Suzuki Escudo. Recent trademark filings and industry sources suggest that this model could debut during the upcoming festive season.

New Identity in a Crowded Segment

While Suzuki uses the Escudo name for the Vitara in Japan, in India, it is expected to be an all-new product. It will be strategically positioned between the Brezza and the Grand Vitara, targeting the high-demand compact SUV segment. Upon launch, it will rival top players like the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Skoda Kushaq, Volkswagen Taigun, Honda Elevate, and MG Astor.

Platform and Design

The Escudo is likely to be based on Suzuki’s Global C platform, also seen in the Grand Vitara. A slightly longer wheelbase may be introduced for enhanced cabin space. Design-wise, expect India-specific styling influenced by international Vitara models.

Features and Interior

The Escudo is expected to deliver a more premium cabin than current Arena offerings. Key features could include:

A large touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto

A digital instrument cluster

Sunroof

Ventilated front seats in higher trims

Engine and Transmission

The SUV is likely to be powered by Maruti’s tried-and-tested 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine, seen in models like the Ertiga, Brezza, and Grand Vitara. A mild-hybrid system may be included to enhance fuel efficiency. Gearbox options could include a 5-speed manual and 6-speed automatic transmission.

The Maruti Suzuki Escudo is expected to be retailed through the Arena dealership network, expanding the brand’s presence in the competitive compact SUV space.
