Delhi man killed in gang crossfire during morning walk
A 43-year-old man named Dipak was shot dead during a morning walk with his 10-year-old daughter in Delhi's Bawana area, in what police believe is a fallout of an ongoing gang rivalry.
Dipak, who had no criminal background, was the nephew of jailed gangster Manjeet Mahal. Police suspect that UK-based fugitive gangster Kapil Sangwan alias Nandu, a long-time rival of Mahal, orchestrated the murder.
According to DCP (Outer-North) Hareshwar V Swami, Dipak was attacked around 7:30 am in Nangal Thakran village by two unidentified assailants on a motorbike. They fired 7–8 rounds, killing Dipak on the spot. His father was walking a few metres behind them during the incident.
Dipak’s daughter, who was walking alongside him, suffered pellet injuries to her hand. She was taken to a nearby hospital and is currently out of danger.
Police confirmed that Dipak was not involved in any criminal activity; he had completed a BTech degree and was working in share trading.
“We have credible leads suggesting Kapil Sangwan alias Nandu may be behind the attack. A murder case has been registered, and multiple teams are working to track down the culprits,” said DCP Swami.
Dipak’s body has been sent to Baba Saheb Ambedkar Hospital for postmortem, expected later today.
