Pune Metro to Add 15 New Trains Soon to Boost Citywide Connectivity

In a major push to upgrade Pune’s public transport system, Pune Metro is set to induct 15 new trains (45 coaches) into its fleet. These trains will support two newly approved metro corridors—Swargate to Katraj and PCMC to Nigdi. Each train will have three coaches, and the addition will boost the total fleet from 34 to 49 trains, increasing the number of coaches from 102 to 147. This move is aimed at reducing passenger crowding, cutting travel time, and enhancing connectivity across the city.

Currently, Pune Metro carries over 1.7 lakh passengers daily, with plans to raise the number to 3.5 lakh in the coming years.

“With the Centre’s approval for new lines, expanding the fleet is essential. We're working to reduce frequency from 7 minutes to 5, and eventually to 3,” said Atul Gadgil, Director (Works), Pune Metro.
