Trump open to Turkey peace talks if Putin, Zelensky attend
US President Donald Trump is open to participating in peace talks proposed by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan — but only if both Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky agree to attend, the White House said on Tuesday (June 3).
“The president has said he’s open to it if it comes to that, but he wants both of these leaders and both sides to come to the table together,” said White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt.
While Erdogan's official proposal hasn't been publicly detailed, diplomatic sources suggest he has offered to host or mediate a high-stakes summit aimed at de-escalating the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
According to these sources, Erdogan has proposed holding the summit in Istanbul or Ankara later this month, bringing together Trump, Putin, and Zelensky in a renewed push for peace in the region.
