Trump Says He Had 'Very Good' Call With Xi, to Visit China Soon
US President Donald Trump said on June 5 that he had a “very good phone call” with Chinese President Xi Jinping to discuss progress in the US-China trade agreement. The call, lasting about 90 minutes, focused mainly on trade issues and the critical topic of rare earth minerals.
Trump described the conversation as positive for both countries and said it clarified the complex matter of rare earth materials—essential for technology manufacturing and a longstanding point of tension in trade relations.
He announced that senior US officials will lead follow-up talks, though the location is not yet set. The delegation will include Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, and US Trade Representative Ambassador Jamieson Greer.
Highlighting diplomatic goodwill, Trump revealed that Xi extended an official invitation for him and First Lady Melania to visit China, which Trump accepted. He emphasized the visit as a hopeful step in the relationship between the two nations, saying both leaders look forward to it.
This call signals renewed dialogue and cooperation amid ongoing trade negotiations between the US and China.
