Uttar Pradesh ATS Uncovers Major Conversion Racket Linked to Self-Styled Godman Chhangur Baba

In a major crackdown, the Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has uncovered a large-scale religious conversion racket allegedly operated by **Jalaluddin alias Chhangur Baba**, a self-styled godman based in Balrampur. Sources told *India Today TV* that over the past three years, Chhangur Baba funded **more than 1,000 Muslim men** to **entrap Hindu women for conversion**, often targeting poor, widowed, and vulnerable individuals.

 ₹500 Crore Foreign Funding Suspected

Investigators allege that Chhangur Baba received **₹500 crore in funding from Muslim-majority countries**, channeled through foreign sources to finance the operation. The money was reportedly used to incentivize men involved in “love jihad” schemes across **seven districts** of Uttar Pradesh. These payments were made both in cash and through illicit transfers routed via the **Indo-Nepal border**, sources said.

Arrests and Ongoing Probe

Alongside Chhangur Baba, his close aide **Neetu alias Nasreen**—suspected of handling foreign funds—has been arrested and placed in **seven-day ATS custody**. The **IB and NIA** are also preparing to question the duo to trace the money trail and identify additional links to international funders.

Earlier arrests include Chhangur Baba’s son **Mehboob** and associate **Naveen alias Jamaluddin**, both of whom remain lodged in **Lucknow District Jail**. All four are under scrutiny for suspicious transactions and foreign ties

Bank Transactions, Property Deals Under Scanner

The ATS is investigating several high-value transactions linked to bank accounts held by Chhangur Baba, Neetu, Mehboob, and Naveen over the last three years. Notably, Baba allegedly used his **son’s bank account to purchase land and other assets**, prompting authorities to question individuals who sold land to him.

The agencies are also probing suspected **foreign bank accounts in Sharjah, Dubai, and the UAE**, which may have been used to receive and conceal illicit funding.

Mansion Demolished

In a symbolic and legal blow, authorities have **demolished a lavish ₹5 crore mansion** built by Chhangur Baba on **illegally occupied government land** in Balrampur. The 40-room bungalow, featuring a marble security gate, was razed to the ground in a three-day operation involving **10 bulldozers**.

 What’s Next?

The investigation is ongoing, with ATS, NIA, and IB working together to map the full extent of the racket. Authorities believe this is one of the largest covert conversion operations uncovered in recent years, with far-reaching financial and communal implications.

Further arrests and property seizures are likely as the probe expands to include **land records, foreign remittances, and cross-border money laundering channels**.
