Samay Raina backs Mohak Mangal, jokes outside SC amid row over remark
Comedian Samay Raina, known for his edgy humour, has found himself embroiled in controversy after his online show India’s Got Latent was accused of mocking individuals with disabilities. What began as a typical comic segment quickly turned serious, leading to nationwide backlash, FIRs, legal proceedings, and even parliamentary debates.
On Tuesday, Samay appeared before the Supreme Court alongside fellow comedians Vipul Goyal, Balraj Paramjeet Singh Ghai, Sonali Thakkar (aka Sonali Aditya Desai), and Nishant Jagdish Tanwar to submit a formal written apology related to the case.
Outside the court, when surrounded by paparazzi seeking a statement, Samay kept his humour intact, responding, “Wahin kahenge na, aapko thodhi kahenge” (I’ll say it there, not to you). The clip went viral, with fans praising his calm wit amid legal trouble.
Meanwhile, ANI has accused content creator Mohak Mangal of using their copyrighted material for profit, claiming his video in response was defamatory and aimed at discrediting the agency, according to Bar and Bench.
This controversy follows earlier cases filed against Samay and influencer Ranveer Allahbadia in Maharashtra and Assam for comments on the show considered offensive. Samay had also appeared before the National Commission for Women to apologise for remarks deemed disrespectful to women.
Despite mounting legal challenges, Samay’s signature humour hasn’t faltered, even under the shadow of a courtroom.
