Union Minister Slams Hospitals Over Charges, Lack of Security Post-Patna Shooting

Union Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi has blamed private hospitals for failing to provide adequate security after a firing incident inside Patna's Paras Hospital.

He said such facilities charge patients heavily but don't invest in safety, adding that the government cannot be held responsible for what he described as a gang war in a private setup.

This is a gang war. No sadhu was shot, and it wasn't a government hospital," said Manjhi. "Had the incident occurred at a government hospital, the government would have acted immediately. Still, now that it has happened, action will be taken.

The incident took place late Sunday night when five armed men entered Paras Hospital in Patna and opened fire on undertrial gangster Chandan Mishra, who was admitted on parole from Buxar jail. Mishra sustained multiple bullet injuries and is in critical condition in the ICU.

CCTV footage from the hospital shows the assailants calmly walking through the corridor and entering Mishra's room before opening fire. The attackers managed to flee without resistance.
