Japan PM Calls Election Result 'Harsh' as Upper House Control Weakens

TOKYO, July 20 (Reuters) – Japan’s ruling coalition is poised to lose control of the upper house, according to exit polls from Sunday’s election, raising the prospect of political instability just as a key tariff deadline with the United States approaches.

Though the vote does not directly threaten Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba’s position, it adds pressure on his already weakened minority government, which lost control of the lower house in October.
