BAN vs PAK: Bangladesh dedicate series win to jet crash victims
Bangladesh secured a historic series win over Pakistan with an eight-run victory in the second T20I and dedicated their triumph to the victims of the jet tragedy in Dhaka.
At least 20 people were killed and 171 others were injured
after a training aircraft of the Bangladesh Air Force crashed into a school building in Dhaka on Monday.
The incident certainly set up an emotional context for the match as Bangladesh were eyeing another series win after their exploits in Sri Lanka. The fans at the Sher-e-Bangla stadium were treated to a thrilling finish with the home side surviving a late onslaught from Faheem Ashraf, who waged a lone battle and got his side close to the target after an early collapse.
After the win, an emotional Litton Das paid tribute to the victims of the tragedy.
Whatever happened yesterday in Bangladesh was pathetic. Also, we want to dedicate this win to the lives lost in yesterday's incident," said captain Litton Das at the post-match presentation.
The bowling attack, led by Shoriful Aslam (3/17 in 4 overs) and Tanzim Hasan Sakib (2/23 in 4 overs) broke the back of the Pakistan chase as the top six of the visitors failed to get to double-digits. They were reduced to 15 for five within the first five overs before Faheem and the tail gave them some hope. The all-rounder scored his maiden T20I fifty and put on 41 runs for the ninth wicket with Abbas Afridi.
