Bengaluru man's ₹7.5Cr Ferrari seized in tax evasion attempt
Ferrari Owner Pays ₹1.42 Crore in Road Tax After RTO Crackdown in Bengaluru
In a major crackdown on tax evasion, officials from the Bengaluru South Regional Transport Office (RTO) forced a Ferrari SF90 Stradale owner to pay a whopping ₹1.42 crore in unpaid road tax after the supercar was found plying the city’s streets without Karnataka registration.
The striking red Ferrari, valued at around ₹7.5 crore, had been drawing attention in Bengaluru over recent months. However, on Thursday morning, RTO officials tracked down the vehicle, which was registered in Maharashtra, and initiated a tax verification.
Upon discovering that no road tax had been paid in Karnataka, officials seized the car and issued a notice to the owner, instructing them to clear the dues by evening and warning of legal action in case of default.
The owner promptly complied, paying a total of ₹1,41,59,041, including penalties—making it one of the largest tax recoveries for a single vehicle in recent memory, according to transport department officials.
🚗 Not an Isolated Incident
This is part of a broader effort by the Karnataka Transport Department to clamp down on luxury vehicles evading state taxes.
In February 2025, authorities had seized 30 high-end cars, including Ferraris, Porsches, BMWs, Audis, Aston Martins, and Range Rovers, during a widespread operation involving over 40 RTO officers.
Officials have reiterated that the drive will continue, and luxury car owners using out-of-state registrations while residing in Karnataka will be closely monitored and penalized for tax evasion.
