Namma Metro's 4th Yellow Line train arrives Aug, full fleet by Dec 2023
Bengaluru Metro Update: Yellow Line Operations Likely to Begin in August
The much-awaited Yellow Line of Bengaluru’s Namma Metro is set to become operational soon, as the Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) confirmed key developments on Thursday. According to BMRCL, the fourth train designated for the Yellow Line is expected to arrive in early August, with two more trains scheduled for delivery starting September. These additions are anticipated to significantly improve connectivity and ease commuting challenges in several parts of the city.
🟡 Yellow Line Set to Launch in August
On Wednesday, BMRCL reiterated its plan to launch Yellow Line operations in August 2025. Officials said the new route would offer substantial relief to commuters by reducing travel time and easing traffic congestion in key areas of Bengaluru.
“The statutory safety inspection is expected after July 15 and may take 3–4 days due to the number of stations and scale of the line,” a senior BMRCL official told Deccan Herald.
🚇 Train Deliveries: Timeline & Updates
Total Yellow Line trains: 15
Expected delivery: All trains to arrive by March 2026
Additional trains for Purple & Green Lines: 20
Delivery by: October 2026
🔧 Reason Behind the Delay
While the Yellow Line's infrastructure is already in place, the delay in operations has been due to late delivery of rolling stock. Titagarh Rail Systems Limited (TRSL), the West Bengal-based train manufacturer, clarified that the holdup was related to visa issues for Chinese engineers, whose presence was required to commission key machinery.
“The machines were ready, but commissioning had to wait for Chinese engineers,” said Pritish Choudhary, Deputy MD of TRSL. He assured that all remaining trains will be delivered soon.
With safety inspections set to begin soon and trains steadily arriving, Bengaluru’s Yellow Line is on track for an August launch, bringing a new phase of urban connectivity to life for the city’s residents.
