Kamal Haasan learnt Bengali for love, says Shruti
Actor Shruti Haasan recently shared an interesting anecdote about her father, Kamal Haasan, during a light-hearted interaction with her Coolie co-star Sathyaraj. While praising Shruti for her command over multiple languages, Sathyaraj drew parallels with Kamal Haasan, who had even acted in a Bengali film. However, Shruti clarified that her father’s decision to learn Bengali was not entirely professional.
With a chuckle, she revealed that Kamal Haasan’s real motivation was his admiration for acclaimed Bengali actress Aparna Sen. “Do you know why he learnt Bengali? Because he was in love with Aparna Sen at the time and wanted to impress her. He didn’t learn it for films,” Shruti confessed. Adding more charm to the story, she mentioned that Kamal Haasan even named Rani Mukerji’s character in Hey Ram after Aparna Sen. Aparna Sen, known for her powerful roles and direction in Bengali cinema, remains a celebrated figure. Meanwhile, Shruti and Sathyaraj’s film Coolie, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, continues its successful theatrical run, crossing ₹400 crore worldwide.
