Google Home redesign: Gemini AI is incorporated into the doorbell, speaker, and Nest camera
A day after Amazon.com Inc. hosted its own product expo, Alphabet Inc.'s Google unveiled a line of new Nest-branded devices on Wednesday in an effort to further integrate AI throughout the smart home. A new doorbell, a pair of video cameras, and a small speaker that can play sound in all directions are among the newest Google gadgets.
While the $99 Google Home Speaker won't be available until spring 2026, the three camera-based products—the third-generation Nest Cam Indoor ($100), second-generation Nest Cam Outdoor ($150), and third-generation Nest Doorbell ($180)—are already on the market. Google attempted to use the speaker's delayed debut as an excuse to give its current device users priority.
According to a statement from the firm, "Introducing Gemini for Home in early access to the tens of millions of speakers and smart displays already in your homes is our top priority." Launching in October and November, Amazon's new Echo speakers—which use the company's most recent Alexa software—will be available on store shelves far sooner.
