Greece halts as thousands go on strike against 13-hour workdays and new labor rules

Greece has come to a full standstill as thousands of workers have taken to the streets. In protest of the new labor regulations that demand a 13-hour workday for Greeks, thousands of workers, union representatives, and others marched the streets on Wednesday. Workers in both the public and commercial sectors stopped working as part of the 24-hour strike, which caused widespread disruptions throughout the nation.

Throughout the 24-hour strike, Athens' trains and taxis were not operating. Due to the strike, buses as well as the capital city's tram, trolley, and subway services ran on a shortened schedule. Public hospitals, courts, schools, and municipalities continue to experience disruptions.

Hospital employees, teachers, and other civil servants ceased working, and transportation services were suspended in the two largest Greek cities, Athens and Thessaloniki. In addition, personnel kept ferries in ports in response to union calls, leaving the waters surrounding Athens devoid of vessels.
