PhonePe, Google Pay UPI will stop working on these numbers from April 1.

New rules affecting UPI apps like Google Pay, PhonePe, and Paytm will take effect on April 1, 2025. This is because the National Payment Corporation of India (NPCI) announced that mobile numbers linked to UPI will be removed from bank accounts if they haven’t been active for a significant period of time. This means that if your bank account is linked to an inactive mobile number, it will get deleted.

The decision was taken by the NPCI because of the growing number of cybercrime incidents that happen every day. According to an India TV investigation, inactive cellphone numbers ultimately cause technological issues with the banking and UPI systems. The issue arises if telecom companies transfer these numbers to another individual, thereby creating opportunities for fraudulent activity.

It is essential to get in touch with your telecom provider to find out if the number is still active and in your name if the mobile number that is connected to your account is no longer active or hasn't been recharged in a long time. If not, you can either update your bank account with a new mobile number or reactivate it right away.
