Sensex, Nifty open red as global stocks fall ahead of Donald Trump tariffs

On Tuesday, March 4, 2025, the trading session started with the stock market in the negative, with the biggest declines occurring in telecom, real estate, and IT stocks. Following a decline in global stocks following US President Donald Trump's announcement that his proposed tariffs will take effect as scheduled, the Sensex and Nifty also experienced a decline.

The benchmark BSE Sensex fell 341.82 points, or 0.47 percent, to 72,744.12 at 9:20 am IST. Reaching 21,986.50, the broader NSE Nifty began the day 132.80 points lower, or 0.6% lower.

When the market opened, Tech Mahindra was down 2.74 percent, trading at ₹1,452.25, the most among the 30 Sensex equities. Next in line were NTPC, which was down 1.96 percent, trading at ₹308.35, and HCL Technologies, which was down 2.47 percent, trading at ₹1,534.05.
