Haryana civic elections: BJP wins in Gurugram, Manesar gets first mayor
After defeating Sunder Lal, the candidate of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), by a margin of 2,293 votes, independent candidate Dr. Inderjit Yadav became the first mayor of Manesar. Lal received 24,100 votes and Yadav 26,393 votes. Manesar's decision to select an independent candidate over a national party like the BJP represents a dramatic change in politics.
A low turnout of 41% attended the polls on March 2, while the Panipat mayoral election was held separately on March 9. Meanwhile, the Haryana municipal elections 2025 are currently being counted in a number of corporations, councils, and municipal committees throughout the state.
