Inside the Bengaluru Murder Case That Shook the Medical Community

Newly revealed forensic evidence has transformed a suspected natural death into a murder probe in Bengaluru. Police arrested surgeon Dr Mahendra Reddy on October 14 after the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) detected anaesthetic traces in the body of his wife, Dr Kruthika M Reddy, who was found unconscious in April and later declared brought dead. The discovery prompted investigators to reclassify the case and led to the arrest of the 32-year-old general surgeon.

Five chilling details have emerged from the probe. Kruthika was reportedly staying at her father’s house in Marathahalli when Mahendra visited under the pretext of giving medical care and administered IV injections with anaesthetic agents over two days. Two days after the first dose she complained of pain at the IV site; Mahendra allegedly told her via WhatsApp not to remove it. She was found unresponsive the next day and — despite being a doctor — Mahendra did not perform CPR. These actions now form part of the prosecution’s case.

Forensic analysis of Mahendra’s phone reportedly showed he was in a relationship with another woman. Investigators say he sent a message to his lover via a digital payment app shortly after the incident, reading: “I killed my wife for you.” The revelation has deepened the criminal case and shocked colleagues and neighbours who described Kruthika as a rising dermatologist who had planned to open her clinic days after her death.
