Voting for the first phase of the Bihar Assembly Election 2025 began at 7 a.m. on 6 November 2025 across 121 of the 243 assembly constituencies in the state of Bihar. With a massive electorate of around 3.75 crore voters, the contest has emerged as a high‑stakes triangular battle involving the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA), the opposition Mahagathbandhan (Grand Alliance) and the newly‑founded Jan Suraaj Party (JSP).
This first phase covers 18 districts including Patna, Darbhanga, Madhepura, Muzaffarpur, Gopalganj, Siwan, Saran, Vaishali, Samastipur, Begusarai, Lakhisarai, Munger, Sheikhpura, Nalanda, Buxar, Bhojpur and others. Out of the 45,341 polling stations, 36,733 are located in rural areas and 8,608 in urban areas. There are 320 model polling stations, 926 exclusively women‑managed polling stations and 107 polling stations managed by persons with disabilities.
In terms of demographics, 1,98,35,325 male voters and 1,76,77,219 female voters are participating; 758 voters are registered in the third‑gender category. A noteworthy 7,37,765 voters aged 18–19 are casting their vote for the first time and 6,736 voters are over the age of 100.
Prominent candidates in this phase include Tejashwi Yadav of the RJD contesting from Raghopur, seeking to continue his winning streak, while facing BJP’s challenger Satish Kumar in a seat formerly held by his mother. From the ruling side, Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary is contesting from Tarapur, and BJP’s debutant candidate Maithili Thakur is fighting from Alinagar. The JSP, led by Prashant Kishor, has fielded candidates in all 243 seats, ramping up its challenge in this assembly election.
