Google announces layoffs in US-based HR, cloud units to cut costs and invest into AI infrastructure: Report

This week, Google said that it is considering a layoff as part of an internal reorganization for its "People Operations" and cloud organizations in the United States. This comes after Anat Ashkenazi, the chief financial officer (CFO), stated that increasing cost-cutting would be one of her main priorities after Google's fourth-quarter sales fell short of forecasts. Ashkenazi also stated that the company plans to increase its expenditure on artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure this year.
According to the article, which referenced a message released on Tuesday by HR chief Fiona Cicconi, this will be a voluntary departure program for full-time staff beginning in early March.
According to the report, employees at levels 4 and 5 (mid-to-senior) may also get a severance payment equal to 14 weeks' salary plus an extra week for each full year of service.
