
Oil and gas stocks lead the charge, with the Sensex up 300 points and the Nifty up 100 in the first trading session.

When the trading session started on Thursday, March 6, the stock market opened in the green for the second time in a row. The sectors that saw the biggest gains were media, oil and gas, and mid- and small-cap IT and telecom firms. The benchmark BSE Sensex increased 302.18 points, or 0.41 percent, to 74,032.41 at 9:20 a.m. At 22,436.35, the broader NSE Nifty began the day 99.05 points higher, or 0.44 percent higher.
Upon opening, Reliance Industries saw the most increase of 2.03% among the 30 Sensex equities, closing at ₹1,199.65. Following this were Tata Steel, up 1.71 percent, trading at ₹148.65, and Asian Paints, up 1.86 percent, trading at ₹2,205.55. Out of the Sensex stocks, only five were down.
The Nifty Oil & Gas Index increased by 1.93 percent, to 9,981.60, the highest of the Nifty sectors indices. Nifty Media followed with a 1.87 percent increase to 1,475.15, and Nifty Midsmall IT & Telecom followed with a 1.24 percent increase to 9,188.35.
