Closing of the stock market: During Friday's trading session, the stock market plummeted, with the biggest declines occurring in IT, telecom, and auto companies. Deep into the red, the indices closed. The benchmark BSE Sensex ended the day at 73,198.10, down 1,414.33 points, or 1.90%. At 22,124.70, the broader NSE Nifty was down 420.35 points, or 1.86%, from its peak.
"A number of domestic and international factors contributed to the market's steep sell-off today," stated Abhishek Pandya, Research Analyst at StoxBox.
"After President Trump's new tariff threats, US Treasury yields increased, while the US market fell 2.5 percent, closing at a five-month low," he continued. "While the revised fourth-quarter economic growth report was respectable, it was insufficient to allay investor fears."
