According to Campbell Wilson, CEO of Air India, the worldwide aircraft constraint that is impeding the airline's expansion would persist for an additional four to five years. This comes as supply snags hobble aircraft production at the world's top jetmakers Boeing and Airbus, news agency Reuters reported.

During an event hosted by the travel news website Skift, Wilson stated that he particularly sees shortages in the supply of narrowbody jet engines, business and first-class seats, and some parts of aircraft fuselages.

The reason for this is that Boeing is recuperating from a nearly two-month-long labor strike that prevented the airplane manufacturer from producing more than 38 737 MAX aircraft per month because of a US Federal Aviation Administration Cap. Ten of the US aircraft manufacturer's much-delayed 777X aircraft and 190 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft were among the 470 aircraft that Air India had bought from Airbus and Boeing.
