CISF Officially Takes Over Navi Mumbai International Airport Security

The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) began formal takeover of security at the new Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) on October 29, 2025, marking a key step toward making the complex a high-security aviation zone. Nearly 2,000 CISF personnel were posted inside the airport premises during induction, and the security set-up will be led by officers at the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) level. After this handover, access to the site will be strictly controlled — only personnel with valid identity cards and passes will be allowed inside.

Top CISF leadership, including Director General Praveer Ranjan, held meetings with Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and state police chief Rashmi Shukla prior to the induction, reflecting coordinated civil-security planning ahead of operations. The induction ceremony and formal takeover were scheduled for late afternoon, with the CISF expected to issue an official statement after the handover.

The NMIA, inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on October 8, is the 71st airport to come under CISF protection. Flight operations are likely to begin in the coming month, subject to final clearance and operational readiness. The airport complex features four terminals, two runways and a dedicated cargo terminal, and when fully operational it is designed to handle up to 90 million passengers and about 360 tonnes of cargo annually — figures that underscore the strategic importance of a robust security framework.
