Delhi Airport IGI T3 Hoax Bomb Threat IndiGo

Panic gripped major Indian airports, including the capital’s crucial aviation hub, Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI) Terminal 3, after a chilling bomb threat was received via email. The security alert, which ultimately proved to be a hoax bomb scare, forced a rapid, all-encompassing deployment of security forces across multiple cities, revealing the nation’s extreme sensitivity to any potential terror threats in the immediate aftermath of the devastating Red Fort car explosion.

The chain of events began on Wednesday afternoon when IndiGo airlines received a threatening email through its official grievance portal. The message, which triggered an immediate crisis response, warned of an explosive device at the Delhi Airport’s T3 and explicitly named several other major airports, including Chennai and Goa. In some reports, the list of threatened locations expanded to include airports in Mumbai, Thiruvananthapuram, and Hyderabad, turning the security scare into a national-level challenge for aviation authorities.

The call reporting the potential threat reached the Delhi Fire Department around 4:00 PM, plunging IGI T3—the primary terminal for international and major domestic flights—into immediate high alert. The response was swift and uncompromising. Teams from the Delhi Police, the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), and specialized Bomb Detection and Disposal Squads (BDDS), along with sniffer dog units, were immediately dispatched to Terminal 3.
