Delhi Murder Case

A 21-year-old woman who had studied forensic science has been arrested in Delhi after police say she strangled and beat her live-in partner, then staged a gas-cylinder explosion to make the death look accidental. The killing took place in the early hours of October 6 at the victim’s flat in Timarpur’s Gandhi Vihar; investigators recovered CCTV footage and call detail records that contradicted the initial “accidental fire” narrative.

According to Delhi Police, the victim — a UPSC aspirant — had reportedly recorded obscene videos of the accused and stored them on a hard disk. When the woman discovered the recordings and demanded their deletion, the dispute escalated. Police allege she conspired with her ex-boyfriend and another associate: the trio first strangled and beat the victim, then poured oil, ghee and alcohol over the body before manipulating a gas cylinder to trigger a fire and destroy evidence.

The plot reportedly made use of specialised knowledge: the accused had a background in forensic science and was an avid follower of crime shows, while the ex-boyfriend worked as an LPG gas distributor and allegedly used his expertise to tamper with the regulator. Footage showed two people entering the building and the woman leaving shortly before the blaze; technical surveillance and CDR analysis helped police trace the suspects and recover the hard disk and other items from the scene.
