Theatre artist and activist Divya Gautam, cousin of Sushant Singh Rajput, files nomination for Digha as CPI(ML) candidate.

Sushant Singh Rajput Cousin Enters Bihar Politics
Divya Gautam, cousin of the late actor Sushant Singh Rajput, has made a high-profile entry into Bihar electoral politics after being named the CPI(M-L) Liberation candidate for the Digha assembly constituency. A theatre practitioner and student-activist with roots in Patna University’s campus politics, Gautam brings an activist’s profile to a seat that has been closely watched ahead of the 2025 assembly polls.
Gautam’s candidacy blends cultural recognition with grassroots politics. Though linked by family ties to Sushant Singh Rajput in the public imagination, she has repeatedly said she does not want to trade on his name and instead wants to emphasise local issues: unemployment, education, student rights, women’s safety and urban infrastructure in Patna’s Digha area. Her background in theatre and student unions — including time with All India Students’ Association — shapes a campaign pitched at youth mobilisation and cultural politics.
The timing follows renewed national attention on Sushant Singh Rajput’s case after the CBI filed a closure report; that backdrop gives Gautam’s campaign unusual media traction but also raises expectations that she will clarify how her politics differs from celebrity associations.
