Hyderabad Police Chief’s Strong Message After Kurnool Bus Tragedy
At least 19 people were charred to death after a private sleeper bus from Hyderabad to Bengaluru collided with a fallen motorbike on National Highway 44 near Kurnool in the early hours, triggering a fast-moving blaze that engulfed the vehicle within minutes. The crash followed the biker losing control after allegedly riding under the influence of alcohol.
Hyderabad Police Commissioner VC Sajjanar lashed out at drunk driving, calling such behaviour “terror” that destroys lives and families. In a blunt post on social media, he said drunk drivers are terrorists and vowed there would be “no mercy” for those found driving under the influence.
Preliminary investigations indicate the biker reportedly intoxicated lost control and fell on the carriageway, leaving the motorcycle in the path of the fast-moving bus. The bus reportedly struck the bike, and spilled fuel ignited, causing the rapid spread of fire that trapped passengers inside the sleeper coach.
