Firozabad Following a student's complaint, officials said on Wednesday that the chancellor of a private institution in Shikohabad, here, along with four other people, had been charged with creating phony marksheets. Dipanshu Giri, a native of Bulandshahr, filed a complaint at the Shikohabad police station on March 18, claiming that he and five other students had successfully completed several semesters of his JS University BSc Agriculture program.

However, according to Additional Superintendent of Police Akhilesh Bhadoria, they had heard rumors that the marksheets might be fraudulent. According to him, the students were first detained at the university gate when they came to the campus on Tuesday to confirm the validity of the marksheets.

When the students were able to get inside, however, agriculture department officials and employees allegedly shut the department before escaping after refusing to answer their questions. The complaint claims that they went to the police because they suspected fraud. According to the police, an inquiry is currently underway after Giri's accusation prompted the filing of a formal complaint under the appropriate provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
